* DESCRIPTION *
This is one of the largest indoor playgrounds we have come across in Basel (1000m2). It is located in the roof of the Kaserne Basel and contains slides, suspended swings, Jacob's ladder and much more for play and exercise. Children are challenged to jump from various height platforms onto thick pads below. Practice bouldering on the rock wall or go for a ride on one of the many wagons they can pull around the space. There is a small room with a bench table that can be used for birthday parties. There are also two outdoor areas with children's vehicles in the barracks and the courtyard (available Wed & Sat afternoons).
From my experience it can get quite busy during out of school hours so if you have little ones the best time to visit is the hour just before lunch time outside opening times. Outside the normal opening hours you can pay a small fee of 5 chf to give access to you and your child. For little ones this is the best time to go and worth the 5chf. Most times we had the entire place to ourselves.
One of the greatest things about this place is that on Wednesday and Saturday afternoons it is open for drop off. My son and his friends love the freedom to hang out without parents and this is a great and safe place for them to do so. We always leave them with a few franks to buy popcorn or another treat from the onsite cafe. It is very well organized and ran buy lovely people. On your first visit they take a picture of your child to put in their book and log all your contact details making sure they can reach you if the kids need. This can be a lifesaver on a day where kids are restless and you have errands to run.
