Community Gatherings
Basel is filled with numerous places where children and families can gather to socialize. Most neighborhoods have a Quartiertreffpunkte with activities for all ages. In addition, there are a wide variety of family playgroups & community centers, libraries, and drop in leisure centers for children and teens. Below you will find a growing list of all community gathering points broken down by neighborhood and with icons to depict the most suitable ages (baby, preschool/kindergarten, primary school & teenager).

Youth are welcome to hang out In the summer in the Reformed church parish hall & In the winter in the grotto under the catholic church. You play ping-pong, you make a duel at the toggle box, cover yourself at the bar with iced tea and snacks, enjoy the atmosphere in the youth room.

The meeting point Lavater offers teens a space to meet and the opportunity to stay in one place without compulsory consumption. There is a café where the kids can buy snacks such as sandwiches, toast, ice cream, chocolates and drinks at youthful prices. There are various leisure activities available such as billiards, table tennis, table football, pinball and many other (board) games. There is also a wide range of newspapers and magazines. The meeting point has different opening times, at which young people can pass without obligation.

The club allwäg always opens the doors of the children's café on Wednesday from 14.00 -17.00 clock. Building, designing, painting, or simply playing. Caregivers of the association "allwäg" ensure a peaceful gathering and a stimulating leisure time for children from the neighborhood. |

The SpielEstrich is an indoor playground (1000m2) for children aged 5 to 12 years. It is located in the old roof structure of the barracks Basel and offers space for romping, climbing, jumping, playing and also for "just lying in the hammock". On Wed & Fri afternoons (2:00 - 5:30 pm) there are two additional outdoor areas: the barracks area and a dreamy backyard.

The MaKly has two-story playrooms, a café, playgroup and child care, contact groups and German language courses with childcare. For those living in the Kleinhueningen neighborhood, Spielwerkstatt Kleinhueningen is a place where you find creative design and playful experience for children aged 5-14 years, theater, dance, workroom, kitchen, nice room to run around and chill, cuisine for afternoon snack and dinner.

The space above the old stables in the gatehouse of the stock mill was once used as a hayloft and now became a diverse and creative play space. Across three levels you will find old wooden slide, a pirate mast and vehicles. Aimed at children aged 3-7, kids are welcome to come play under parent supervision.

GGG library The GGG City Libraries of Basel consist of eight public libraries, one main library, six branches and the Public Library Pratteln, plus the UKBB-Children's Library and reading promotion in Kleinhüningen. Most libraries offer leisure space for children and teens to gather and play.
